Banana Nut Crunch

This is my take on the viral ‘snickers’ bar, it doesn’t actually taste anything like snickers but it IS delicious and made mostly from whole foods! You eat this straight from the freezer which means the bananas could very easily be mistaken for ice cream!

What’s more, aside from soothing that sweet craving in a healthier way, this snack might actually help relieve your period pain!  And don’t worry, this recipe isn’t just for people who experience periods, everyone can enjoy it and will reap some nutritional reward too! Here’s why >>>

Bananas are great source of Potassium, Magnesium. Tryptophan and Fiber.

Peanuts also contain high levels of Magnesium, Fiber and Vitamin B6which has been proved to help relieve period pain

Chia Seeds are rich in fatty acids like Omega 3 which are naturally anti-inflammatory and they help our digestion too.

And Dark Chocolate (minimum 70%) is a good source of Magnesium, Antioxidants and its also triggers an Endorphin release, so instantly picks up your mood!

Potassium, as well as aiding your sleep quality, it also helps to regulate fluid balance, muscle contractions and nerve signals. So when the bloating and cramps hit, grab a banana!

Magnesium helps to relax muscles, again why contributes to a good nights sleep but its also great for helping to ease cramping.

Fiber obviously aids our digestion, things can become a little dysregulated during your period so consuming foods that help your gut work properly is essential.

Tryptophan is an amino acid our bodies use to make Serotonin (happy hormone) and Melatonin (Sleep Hormone). So when you’re feeling a little off, consider what you’re giving your body to work with.

Banana Nut Crunch

Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Cooking Time: 2 Minutes
Total time: 7 Minutes
Servings: 10

Ingredients

  • 2 Bananas
  • 50g Chia Seeds
  • 100g Peanut Butter
  • 100g Dark Chocolate
  • 25g Chopped Peanuts or Flaked Almonds
  • A small dish ( Mine was 8 inch x 4 inch)
  • a small cereal bowl
  • spoon
  • Baking Paper

Instructions

1. Line your dish with baking paper
2. Slice up your bananas and lay them in the bottom of the dish, squash them all in. I think this recipe works best if the bananas are a bit mushy.
3. Next smooth over your peanut butter on top of the bananas
4. Now its time to break up your chocolate into your small bowl and melt it. I used a microwave
5. Once your chocolate is melted, mixed the chia seeds into it and immediately smooth over the top of the peanut butter layer.
6. This is when you need to top with your chopped nuts of choice, and maybe a little sea salt if youre feeling fancy.
7. Cover and pop in the freezer until frozen.
8. I chop mine up into 10 pieces and then keep in a box in the freezer ready to grab when I fancy a treat. When youre ready to eat it, take a piece out and allow it to start defrosting slightly ( if you can wait that long!)
